A two-day event, the Soft Skills University and Interview Day taught the students of the Lowndes County Career Tech Center about the do’s and do not’s of interviews, how to properly shake hands, make eye contact, how to make a good first impression to an employer, and other skills necessary for entering the workforce. Students then had the opportunity to listen to some words of wisdom from local industry leaders. Speakers on Wednesday included Christee Holbrook from Graham Roofing, Katie McCrary from McCrary-West Construction, HR consultant Joe Beall, and Talia Worth and Sam Watford from Tronox.
On Thursday, the students were also able to put into practice the soft skills discussed the day before, and practice being interviewed by members of the different CTC advisory boards and other industry professionals. We believe the quicker these students are taught these skills, and the more frequently they practice them the more prepared they will be for future endeavors.
