June 23-27, 2019
The iBuild Construction Camp is a unique hands-on camp experience for students who are interested in skilled trades. FORGE member Christee Holbrook with Graham Roofing connected MSU Building Construction Science director George Ford and Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF) in order to bring this camp to north MS. We had the largest camp to date with 22 students from all over north MS and parts of AL.
Students arrived on Sunday afternoon and spent the week working with their teams on building a shooting house that also included plumbing and electricity. Students were coached through the building process through MCEF employees and volunteers. They spent their nights doing various activities across MSU’s campus with the BCS Student Counselors. The camp concluded on Thursday with a lunch catered by Little Dooey’s and an award ceremony. Students were given personality certificates by the BCS Counselors, and then given construction based certificates by MCEF. Parents were invited to the ceremony to learn about how their children spent their week.
It was an overall successful first camp, and we are looking forward to next year. We owe a big thank you to MCEF for organizing and staffing the event, MSU BCS for offering their facilities and helping organize, and the MSU BCS students for being counselors and looking after the students.
Dates selected for the 2020 iBuild Construction Camp are June 14-18. To find out more information, click here.
